PERRYOPOLIS — Firefighters from several area companies scrambled to a Perryopolis home after flames broke out at the residence shortly after 6 a.m. this morning.
While initial reports indicated that someone might be trapped inside the residence, firefighters said no one was home when the fire began at the single-story residence on Layton Road.
According to A.J. Boni, Perry Township assistant volunteer fire chief, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen.
He said the home suffered some smoke and water damage throughout, but credited fire crews with getting the fire rapidly under control to preserve the majority of the house.
