Brownsville hospital opens doors

May 22, 2008

Brownsville Tri-County Hospital opened its doors to patients this morning, the first time the Redstone Township facility has been open since January 2006.
The emergency room is now open 24 hours a day. The hospital is also offering a 21-bed inpatient unit with six telemetry monitored beds, a full-service laboratory, respiratory therapy, a radiology department and on-site pharmacy, as well as other services.
Local ambulances services are praising the reopening of the medical facility, saying it will improve health care in the region and allow them to reduce the time they are out of service between calls.

Wal-Mart coming to Brownsville by Dec. 2009

May 15, 2008

WEST BROWNSVILLE — If everything goes as planned, there will be a new Wal-Mart in West Brownsville in time to Christmas shop in 2009.

Several municipal bodies have approved agreements with the Croftcheck family, the developers of the project, for sewage treatment. West Brownsville Borough Council Wednesday approved the sewage planning module for the project submitted by McMillen Engineering. The plan calls for a holding tank to be used during construction. The Redstone Township Sewer Authority has agreed to take the sewage from that holding tank on a temporary basis.

California Borough Council on April 11 signed a letter of intent to accept the sewage from the Wal-Mart development, with an agreement to be drafted within 90 days.

Toll plaza construction moving along quickly

April 28, 2008

Construction of the new $9 million mainline toll plaza of the Mon-Fayette Expressway is zooming along as crews have already set a pedestrian bridge and completed construction of two utility buildings at the site.
The toll plaza remains one of the final projects of the Uniontown-to-Brownsville link of the Mon-Fayette Expressway, which is scheduled for completion in August.
Located in Redstone Township, the new mainline toll plaza will join the toll plaza on Route 43 at the Interstate 70 interchange as the only mainline toll plazas on the expressway.
“We have the main structures up and two utility buildings built. We have the stairwell up and a pedestrian bridge for the employees’ completed and painted. We are working on steps to the control tower now,” Randy Rouse of Mosites Construction Co. in Pittsburgh said today.
He said that the undertaking is about 60 percent complete, noting that the tollbooths still need to be built.
